About Halfdan Harring

I'm a Danish indie game developer and full-stack developer from Aarhus. I build my games completely alone — concept, code, art direction, App Store listing, marketing — and I write about the process openly in the devlog.

Games by Harring is my games label. Three of my games — Dolphin Beyond, HeadToHead and Quiz Fight — are live on the App Store today, and four more are in development.

The story

I didn't come to games through a computer science degree — I don't have one. I came through years of trying to build businesses, discovering that every idea eventually needed software, and deciding to stop outsourcing the interesting part.

I taught myself to code the unglamorous way: freeCodeCamp at night, MDN always open in a tab, the React documentation read start to finish, and project after project shipped to real users. Client work through my studio JegUdvikler sharpened the engineering; my own apps under AppsMedHalfdan taught me product; and games became the place where everything gets pushed to its limit.

Games are the hardest software I know how to make. A CRUD app forgives you; a physics game where the jump feels 5% wrong does not. That's why I love them — every game on this site forced me to learn something I couldn't do before: writing a deterministic physics engine, simulating 3D dice with Rapier, or building native GPS plugins for a running game.

I work from Aarhus, Denmark, I speak Danish and English, and I recently became a father — which has done wonders for how ruthlessly I prioritise scope.

How I got here

  1. 01 · The start

Grows up in Denmark. An older brother teaches himself PHP, and the idea that you can just build things on the internet sticks.

  2. 02 · The detour

Years of business ideas and small ventures. Websites keep being the bottleneck — so he starts editing his own, then rebuilding them, then building them from scratch.

  3. 03 · Going all in

In his late twenties, coding stops being the side skill and becomes the craft: freeCodeCamp, MDN, the React docs, and above all shipping real projects.

  4. 04 · The one-person studio

Today he runs three brands from Aarhus — JegUdvikler (client work), AppsMedHalfdan (his apps) and ForedragMedHalfdan (talks) — and ships games as Games by Harring. Recently became a dad.

The toolbox

One person shipping complete games means choosing tools that multiply effort. This is the stack behind everything on this site.

  • TypeScript
  • React
  • Vite
  • Node.js
  • Tailwind CSS
  • Three.js
  • Rapier
  • Capacitor
  • Firebase
  • Cloud Functions
  • Blender
  • Cursor

Halfdan Harring around the web

This site is about the games. For everything else: my Danish hub is halfdanharring.dk, my English profile is halfdanharring.com, my apps live at appsmedhalfdan.dk, I blog in Danish at halfdanharringblog.dk, and I build for clients at jegudvikler.dk. Code is on GitHub, and all my released games are on my App Store developer page.
